Iran Enforces Crypto Curfew After Israel Group Hacks Nobitex, Burns $90M And Leaks Exchange Source Code
Iran imposed a trading curfew on crypto exchanges after a pro-Israel hacking group stole over $90 million in digital assets from Nobitex, then burned the loot and revealed the exchange’s source code. The curfew, imposed by Iran’s central bank, limits crypto trading to between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. local time, blockchain analytics firm Chainalysis said in a June 18 blog post. The move appeared to be a response to fears of further cyberattacks amid the war between Israel and Iran, said Chainalysis head of national security Andrew Fierman. “Incidents are easier to triage if they’re not happening in the middle of the night,” he said.
